Problems

Planning and Scheduling:In a business it can be very problematic to over staff or under staff. By under staffing employees it can lead to poor customer service, and by over staffing employees it can lead to a high volume in labor for Applebee's. It is critical to find the proper balance for this issue. As a group, we discovered the proper balance by using the workforce scheduling method. 

The workforce scheduling method is used to satisfy the general objectives of the establishment. Which will result to meet required strategic goals, customer satisfaction, and level of sales without endangering the company’s financial reports.Currently, Applebee's has in total 30 employees a mixture of waitresses and waiter. This amount of employees are not scheduled properly, they are some days where the establishment is under-staffed or over-staffed. We created a workforce schedule based on the manager's demand. 



As you can see using this method and taking into consideration the requirement number of employees needed for the evening shifts from Monday through Sunday. We concluded that only 15 employees would be needed instead of 30. 

One Worker Multiple Machines:One worker multiple machines are a method production that involves one employee operating on multiple different machines.  This method is useful to spot out what elements acquire more attention than others.

As you can see there are too many employees concentrating on one assignment.  When employees are capable to focus on other elements in the establishment. The results for multiple employees focusing on one factor can leave a negative impact. Which it has not been working properly for Applebee's.

With the adjustments, we’ve made above our group has reevaluated Applebee’s Clark, NJ format to construct where attention is mostly required. Thus, leading other objectives to focus on. The use of one worker, multiple machines would benefit Applebee's because it would economize the use of labor and it would help maximize their workers. Workers were moved around where help is most needed and new tasks were created such as Food run, and Captain. Food Run will help this establishment tremendously because the employees in charge can help the other servers by cleaning the tables and taking the empty plates, cups, and utensils to the back. This will save time and will cause tables to be available faster.  The Captain will be the backup for when managers are not around causing there to be a leadership presence.
